ASTM A234 Grade WPB Butt-Weld Reducers
A Butt-Weld Reducer is a wrought pipe fitting used to change the pipe size in a system, either by increasing or decreasing the diameter. They are available in two main configurations: Concentric Reducers (which maintain a common center axis) and Eccentric Reducers (which have an offset center axis, often used in horizontal lines to maintain the bottom level of the pipe). The fitting is joined to the pipe by butt welding, creating a permanent, leak-proof joint. The standard for this fitting material is ASTM A234 Grade WPB, which specifies Wrought Carbon Steel for use in pressure piping and high-temperature service. This material grade is perfectly matched for piping systems that incorporate ASTM A105 flanges, which are secured by ASTM A193 Grade B7 Stud Bolts and their complementary A194 Grade 2H Heavy Hex Nuts. The strength and weldability of A234 WPB ensure system integrity under the severe mechanical and thermal stresses typical of critical high-pressure lines. Zeron Fasteners offers both concentric and eccentric reducers conforming to ASME B16.9 standards.
