ASTM A105 Forged Carbon Steel Slip-On Flanges

The Slip-On Flange (SO Flange) is a highly popular and economical forging component. It's designed to slide over the end of the pipe and is secured by two fillet welds—one inside the bore and one outside. The primary advantage of the SO Flange is its ease of alignment before welding, which drastically reduces fabrication time and cost compared to weld neck flanges. The standard material for these flanges in industrial piping is ASTM A105, which specifies Forged Carbon Steel suitable for pressure systems. These flanges are commonly used in systems with lower pressure and temperature ratings (e.g., Classes 150 to 600) and are reliably secured by ASTM A193 Grade B7 Stud Bolts and their complementary ASTM A194 Grade 2H Heavy Hex Nuts.
